The Monsoon and what I feel about it

We associate monsoon with emotions, be it loneliness, bliss, love, or just the mood to eat khichudi with omelette. The rain pours incessantly, and I think of the many days and nights I spent looking at the waterlogged streets, the children conversing from opposite sides of the street while competing with paper boats. The rain brings a musty smell wafting through the air, dampening the surrounding cacophony, but after months, the rain supremacy persists. It is something magical.

Now I feel nothing. It didn’t always use to be like this. But somewhere along the way, through many classes and exams and responsibilities and duties, the rain became less of an emotion and more of a disturbance, a distraction. The romance is gone. You might love the feeling the rain brings, and I envy you for that. What can I do to bring those emotions back?

It has been four days of continuous rain in Goa, and believe me, we travelled far and wide. Yesterday was the rainiest of all! We stood at the beach, drenched not in sea but rain, and it added a whole new dimension to the scenario. But I wish I felt romance, awe and beauty. How can I again feel a sense of wonder and love for the rain? I do not desperately need a solution, but a suggestion from you would be nice. I am open to learn new things, adapt to new situations, all in the process of happiness.

  1. I think emotionally we all like the ‘idea’ of rain but practically it is a messy business that brings out the worst in a city. Sad but true 🙂

    • That’s very true in a city. The rain changed our experience of a seaside vacation, no doubt. It wasn’t messy this time, thankfully, because even the cities of Goa are in the lap of Mother Nature. Maybe staying over for more time would have made the rain romantic. However, I dread getting stuck in the rain in cities like Kolkata or Mumbai or Delhi.
