All-time favourite album is hard to choose, but I have one!

What’s your all-time favorite album?

I have three artists that I listen to intently.

BTS

Taylor Swift

Ed Sheeran

And among their masterpieces, I have only one in mind which is slightly better than the rest, because frankly all of them are too good to be ranked. Even then, I will describe why that album is important to me.

Indigo – RM (BTS)

It is a solo album released in December 2022. It has a story within each song, and a flow which connects them all.

The album starts with RnB track “Yun” which resonates with the message “You gotta be a human before you do some art”. The mood changes with a funk vibe of “Still Life” where you cannot lock the movements of someone, as even their still capture speaks for itself.

As you go through the ups and downs of love and life with “All Day” and “Forg_tful”, suddenly the mood becomes a bit sombre with “Closer” and rap-heavy “Change pt.2” where you feel pining for connection. It is worth noting that these two songs are fully in English, and arguably the favourites of many on the album. Then life happens again with “Hectic”, where you are just running through stages in order to cope with the fast-paced world.

And then dawns self-realization sprinkled with the purpose of your existence. Lead single “Wildflower” is nothing short of a poetic ensemble. It’s 4.5 minutes long but worth it. It speaks of rediscovering yourself amidst all the shackles, fireworks and negativity that comes with fame and success, and realize that growth and happiness are the only ever-lasting friends who are there to stay with you. You are like a wildflower just existing in the meadows just because. No higher ambition, no pressure attached.

At the epilogue, the artist assures you to not look back on your past life and regrets with “No. 2”, indicating the start of a new chapter when the old one is resolved with. Because whatever happened, you cannot change the past, but know and believe that you did your best, and look forward to living in the present.

The flow of the album is just how life is like. You grow, rise, fall and then rise again. But all this entails that you know truly who you are underneath. How this album helps me even after 10 months of its release! Thank you, Kim Namjoon.
